“Thoughts become things. If you can see it in your mind you can hold it in your hand.” ~ Bob Proctor

What is the Law of Attraction?

The Law of Attraction - the simple principle of like attracts like, just like gravity, it’s the unchanging law of the Universe - things in our Universe tend to gravitate toward ‘like’ things. By being aware of and harnessing the Law of Attraction (LOA), being grateful, raising your vibration and creating clear intentions you can make stuff happen for you rather than to you. Some of the most famous philosophers, theologians and scientists are reputed to have consciously worked with the LOA, among them: Plato, Leonardo, Galileo and Einstein. Modern day devotees who credit their success to the LOA include Will Smith, Arnold Swarzenegger, Oprah Winfrey and Jim Carey.

My first introduction to the LOA came in 2006, when a friend lent me their copy of ‘The Secret’. The film explores key principles such as gratitude, visualisation and intention setting and recounts remarkable stories of people who’ve used it to affect massive positive transformation to their lives. I’ve always had the belief that anything is possible in life if you put your mind to it, somehow The Secret really helped confirm those beliefs.

Does the law of attraction really work? 3 famous experiments that prove it does.

Just like watching an apple fall from a tree, there are experiments that demonstrate the effect of thoughts and feelings -

Dr Mesaru Emoto was famous for his experiments on water. He recorded how thoughts and intentions can affect its structure. Negative emotions caused the water molecules to become corrupted and asymmetrical, whereas loving thoughts and intentions created beautiful symmetrical water crystals.

In 1993, Washington DC, a group of 4000 meditators volunteered to meditate on peace and love for 4 hours per day. The result - crime diminished by an astonishing 25% during the month of meditation.

A study of seniors aged 70-80 years old was performed in 1979 to see a difference was made by either remembering or re-living youth. One group talked and reminisced about their youth, while the other group pretended they were young again, listening to music from their younger years and taking part in activities they used to enjoy. Results - the group who imagined they were young improved their eyesight, hearing, blood pressure and hearing – their thoughts and imagination had a positive effect on their health.

Experiments with the Law of Attraction.

I’ve manifested many things over the years, I chose these stories to recount because we had so much fun creating them -

Last year we were on holiday in Cornwall, my daughters and I decided we’d have some fun experimenting with the LOA.

The first day, we decided to manifest a dog toy (at the time we were considering getting a dog). We were on the beach and sure enough, the girls found a ball thrower. I jokingly said “you can find a ball now”, to my surprise ten minutes later they have a ball in their possession, and it fit inside the thrower perfectly.

Next we decided we’d go a little bigger with our manifesting and decided on a £20 note by 1pm the following day. We were really relaxed about it, and actually forgot about our intention, it’s a bit of a long story - and a boring one, so I won’t go into it – but the £20 note was given to me at exactly 12.50pm. I couldn’t believe it. This shit works!

The third experiment - we decided to get adventurous and manifest a free boat ride (we were by the sea so this wasn’t completely unbelievable). I reminded the girls that the ride may not come from where we expect it - we were going on a boat that day, so it was the obvious place to imagine. We got on the boat, and as the conductor came around to collect money, somehow he didn’t see us, even though there were only about 10-15 people on the boat of which we were 4, it was as if we were invisible, he didn’t even look at us. This story amazes me to this day. When we got to the end of the ride, we offered the money for our trip. We were thrilled our experiment worked, but wanted to pay our way.

Reflections on our experiments. And how to make it work for you.

    1. Using the LOA can be really easy, you just need to truly believe it’s possible.
    2. Make sure you’re not repelling your desires - take note of your inner dialogue when you set an intention. Expose them by writing them down; examine what your subconscious is telling you then re-write the story. For example, my journal for manifesting a boat ride looked like: “there’s no way we’re getting a free ride, we’ve been out many times and have never received a free boat ride, why would it happen today?” Re-written: “why not manifest a boat ride? Today’s a good a day. We’ve manifested all we’ve asked for so far, so we can manifest more if we wish”
    3. Raise your energetic vibration – be joyful, have gratitude , be ‘in the flow’ , relaxation really helps -I consider our experiments worked so easily because we were stress-free and on holiday.
    4. Write down your goals to connect with your WHY - tune into how the event or 'thing' will make you feel.
    5. Don’t try to use the LOA to manipulate anyone - for example in case of love, focus on the feeling of being loved and not on a specific person.
    6. What worked best for us was to visualise the thing or event before going to sleep and on waking, then to just relax and not really think too much about it through the day.
    7. The Universe loves specificity – when you set your intention, make sure you are really specific about it. I believe our free boat ride wasn’t truly ‘free’ because we weren’t specific enough. We could’ve re-thought our intention from ‘a free boat ride’ to ‘a free boat ride in which everyone involved benefits.’

Each month when I write my New Moon Journal, I find I also inspire myself – I love sharing ideas and (hopefully) positively inspiring you too, working with the rhythm of the moon and seasons, I’ve found I’m more in tune with synchronicity (better for manifesting) and with my dreams and visions. My spiritual teacher always said - New Moon is a good time for new beginnings, for starting things - each month you have a chance to set a new intention or to change something in your life.

What new intention will you set this month?

As always, this article was written with gratitude for all the wise friends, family and mentors who have helped guide me this far ~ I couldn't have done it without you.

    ~ Now it’s your time

    With love and gratitude,

P.S. I always love hearing your thoughts and tips, so comment below if you have a manifesting story you'd like to share.
